Abbott-Wade newel posts add a bespoke touch to your staircase installation

There are many factors which add an individual touch to one of our bespoke staircase installations. By offering our customers different styles, colours and materials for our many stair parts we can ensure that every staircase we install fits perfectly into their surroundings. As well as offering a range of handrail and balustrade styles, we can also offer an array of newel posts. A newel post is a staircase’s supporting pillar which in addition to being a structural component, can provide aesthetic and decorative properties to make a feature of the stairway.

Abbott-Wade’s range of newel posts includes styles to suit a range of modern and traditional homes.

Square Newel Post

Our square newel posts are a contemporary style of newel with clean defined edges which pair beautifully with flat newel caps and contemporary glass balustrades.

Stop Chamfered Newel Post

The chamfered edges of these newels soften the sharp corners of a square newel by creating a transition between in the faces which narrows as it meets the arris. Stop chamfered newel posts bridge the gap of a modern square newel and the turned newels popular in more traditional staircases. They are finished best with an Abbott-Wade pyramid newel cap and look equally at home when paired with glass or stop chamfered spindles.

Turned Newel Post

Turned newel posts are most commonly associated with traditional staircases in period homes. They are often finished with a traditional ball cap or as a component in a continuous handrail as shown in the darker sapele and painted examples below.

Twisted & Sleek Newel Post

Steel Baluster Post

Steel has become increasingly popular in domestic staircases in recent years with homeowners looking for a very contemporary style. Abbott-Wade offer stainless steel baluster posts and rails in both polished and brushed finishes as pictured below. These are often mounted onto a timber stub-newel (see the black staircase pictured below) but can also be mounted to the side of the outer stringer as pictured in the walnut & glass staircase (below).

With a trailblazing and highly specific design brief, this new flight pairs bewitching black stained oak with pristine stainless steel baluster posts and rails to house our 10mm toughened glass. Combining oak, steel and glass delivered an ultra-modern staircase synergy and left mediocrity far behind. brushed Stainless Steel square steel handrail & glass black oak steel and glass close up of a brushed stainless steel and glass balustrade in a straight staircase Steel & oak handrail renovation black & white Stainless steel and white

Newel Post Construction

The Abbott-Wade M8 newel post is our favoured newel and coveted by our competitors because the 8mm precision mitred faces provide 4 perfect oak faces without the visible joins which are evident in the laminated 2-piece newels used by other staircase companies. Read more about the Abbott-Wade newel here.
