Just like homes, staircases come in all shapes and sizes. A common feature which is often required when designing the configuration and installation of a new staircase is a winder. A double winder allows a staircase to undergo a half (180 degree) turn without the need for a landing by narrowing one side of the treads and one or more winders may be required. A double winder may comprise of two separate quarter turns separated by a straight run of stairs or in a complete half (180 degree) turn around a single newel depending on the configuration required. In some instances a triple winder (working on the same principles) can also be designed and installed.
