A Staircase Renovation of an open tread flight replacing key staircase components and cladding over others makes the original staircase unrecognisable and creating the illusion of a completely new staircase.

Why a new staircase?

“We inherited the old style, dark brown ranch staircase when we bought the property some years ago. It fitted the rustic/artex finish to the cottage. When this was removed, the old staircase really did not fit. We have lived with it for some years and finally decided that it was gloomy and made a small, dark room even smaller and darker. It was tired and outdated.”

Inspiration:

“We saw in a weekend colour supplement how an old staircase could be renovated and we decided to go ahead and find out whether our rather complicated stair could be improved.”

Decision Making Process:

“At first we consulted the company whose glossy advert we had seen in the Colour Supplement. However they made rather heavy weather of the complications and we pulled out as we found their solution unacceptable. We decided that we really did want to renovate the stairs despite this initial setback and so looked for other companies, finding Abbott-Wade on the internet.”

Style Choice:

“We wanted as much light as possible to come down the stairwell and had opted for a glass balustrade and a light-coloured wood like oak for the same reason. The finished product has thrilled us, fulfilling all we hoped for. It has transformed the room.”

End Result:

“We are very pleased and delighted with the new staircase. The care and craftsmanship is first class and the problems the rather tricky open tread design had posed have been brilliantly overcome. Lee and Jake worked very hard and even stayed a third day to ensure that the finish was completed. Nothing was too much trouble for either of them. We now enjoy going up and down the staircase very day!”

Style:

A contemporary staircase for a modern home to make the hallway and stairs feel bright and spacious.

Timber Choice:

Natural Oak finished to a furniture quality standard completes this staircase.

All the timber stair parts used here are prefinished in our spray shop by our specialist team to make this installation more efficient for the client and reducing mess & fuss and reducing the need for further visits to polish or paint their new staircase installation.

Balustrade:

Toughened 10mm embedded glass panels set into the rails presents clean lines filling the stairway with light and making the space look bigger and brighter.

Solid engineered oak newel posts with 4 perfect faces and no visible joins and FLAT newel caps with contemporary styled oak handrail.

Treads:

A soft, warm carpet covers the existing treads and risers of the original staircase for a comfortable feeling under foot.

The tired softwood treads of the original staircase have been re-clad in engineered solid oak with an anti-slip finish. It’s difficult to believe this isn’t a completely new staircase!

Solid engineered oak treads provide both function and form as they are aesthetically striking but also hardwearing and functional.

In Summary:

Open treads staircase renovations require specialist expertise, luckily the Chisholm family came the right place!
