The best things come in small packages. Not true of bank balances, but often true of many staircases. While we’ve installed some grand staircases over the years, the majority of us are slightly less well-endowed when it comes to our stairs. Many of the family homes we visit may only consist of two and a half newel posts – but size, after all, isn’t everything. Continue reading…
When Chartered Surveyor James – from Shakespeare’s own county and with the Bard’s grace and eloquence, had decided that his current staircase did nothing to compliment the original architecture of his home. James and his wife Shelagh decided the time was right to breath new life into their stairs with a call to Abbott-Wade. Chunky, oversized oak newel posts replaced those of the original staircase with embedded glass securing the balustrade.
“After thirty years, the house at last feels ‘all of a piece’; the cornerstone of the aesthetic is now in place. The historic and the contemporary are now in harmony. A very satisfactory, and very satisfying, result.” – James & Shelagh
The staircase in the center of their store was in need of a renovation and we were glad to be of service. Since this time, the lovely people at Smart Furnishings have been happy to invite people into their store to see the quality of the installation for themselves before taking the plunge with a staircase of their own and even pointing their own customers in our direction. It’s not the first time that an Abbott-Wade staircase been used as a major selling point for a beautiful house. The customer selling this home was very disappointed to be leaving behind his beautiful oak staircase. The striking oak feature step with a backdrop of chamfered oak and forged steel Winsor spindles acending the oak stairs still makes a striking impact in the entrance hall several years on from their original installation.
Our nationwide service is great news for our customers but we’re proud of our roots and love to work locally when we can. Therefore, a visit to install a new staircase in St Helens resulted in another delighted Abbott-Wade customer and was enjoyed by all parties.
“We’re really pleased with everything!!”
Keen to show off her new staircase with a newly fitted carpet, Mrs Farrall in Derbyshire was so pleased she even sent us in this photograph. Her carpet works beautifully with the stairs and wall colouring and sets off the bottom oak step perfectly. We always love to see the completed project once customers have added their own finishing touches.
“The whole process from quote to completion was professional and seamless, even the minor snagging issues at completion were dealt with promptly and satisfactorily.” – Mrs Farrall
Whatever it is you’re buying, chances are you’ll be shopping around to get the best price you can. But what do you actually get for your money? It’s important to be clear on what you are buying. Will there be any hidden charges for designs or surveys? Will you have any work to do after the installation is finished? Continue reading…
“The hall stairs and landing will be worthy of inclusion in Country Life magazine!”
There are many types of staircase, in all shapes and sizes. Open tread staircases are a great way to add an open feeling to a living area. However, even an open tread staircase can need a bit of TLC eventually and Abbott-Wade were the obvious choice for Mr & Mrs Dowlman in Lincolnshire who wanted to replace old ranch rails to create a bright glass staircase. As other work in the home progressed, the completed staircase provided the vision and drive to ensure the rest of the project was completed to the same standard:
“Needless to say we are delighted with our revamped staircase. At the moment it is a beacon of delight in a sea of disorganisation!”
