Turn economic groans into hurrahs for your homes: It’s time to invest in your property

1273179534-300pxBrexit came as a surprise to many of us and the economists reported the events with caution and suggested an economic slowdown. This can be bad news for homeowners looking to make a sale as there is usually a reduced demand for housing as buyers become more nervous and are put off buying. In turn, this often leads to a reduction in the value of a home which is very bad news, especially if you’re downsizing as you stand to lose more on the home you are selling than the you would save on the home you are buying.

The Mighty Oak

We may never learn exactly what magic allows such an impressively large tree to fit inside such a tiny acorn, but with a mature oak tree producing 2,200 acorns a year there’s plenty more miracles still waiting to grow.

Maximising small staircases

Playing on a small staircase
The best things come in small packages. Not true of bank balances, but often true of many staircases. While we’ve installed some grand staircases over the years, the majority of us are slightly less well-endowed when it comes to our stairs. Many of the family homes we visit may only consist of two and a half newel posts – but size, after all, isn’t everything. Continue reading…

Staircase Stories: James and Shelagh, Warwickshire

When Chartered Surveyor James – from Shakespeare’s own county and with the Bard’s grace and eloquence, had decided that his current staircase did nothing to compliment the original architecture of his home.  James and his wife Shelagh decided the time was right to breath new life into their stairs with a call to Abbott-Wade. Chunky, oversized oak newel posts replaced those of the original staircase with embedded glass securing the balustrade.

Catching up with old friends

Catching up with old friendsIt’s a couple of years since we first met our friends at Smart Furnishings.

The staircase in the center of their store was in need of a renovation and we were glad to be of service. Since this time, the lovely people at Smart Furnishings have been happy to invite people into their store to see the quality of the installation for themselves before taking the plunge with a staircase of their own and even pointing their own customers in our direction. Another Abbott-Wade staircase stuns Rightmove

Screen Shot 2016-07-07 at 13.15.45It’s not the first time that an Abbott-Wade staircase been used as a major selling point for a beautiful house. The customer selling this home was very disappointed to be leaving behind his beautiful oak staircase. The striking oak feature step with a backdrop of chamfered oak and forged steel Winsor spindles acending the oak stairs still makes a striking impact in the entrance hall several years on from their original installation.

Keen to show off her new staircase with a newly fitted carpet, Mrs Farrall in Derbyshire was so pleased she even sent us in this photograph. Her carpet works beautifully with the stairs and wall colouring and sets off the bottom oak step perfectly. We always love to see the completed project once customers have added their own finishing touches.

“The whole process from quote to completion was professional and seamless, even the minor snagging issues at completion were dealt with promptly and satisfactorily.” – Mrs Farrall
