Carpeted staircases are a great option for those not wanting hardwood treads. They feel soft and warm underfoot, reduce noise and provide a sure footing. One option for an oak staircase is to use a runner which carpets the central walkway whilst exposing the beautiful oak treads beneath at it’s edges. Another option for your oak staircase is a full carpet which is more traditional and comes with the added benefit of concealing the full tread. This means that softwood treads can then be used for the internal structure of the structure (as they cannot be seen) and is one way of reducing the overall cost of your oak, ash, sapele or walnut staircase.
