We may never learn exactly what magic allows such an impressively large tree to fit inside such a tiny acorn, but with a mature oak tree producing 2,200 acorns a year there’s plenty more miracles still waiting to grow.

Oak trees can live for over 200 years and absorb more than 50 gallons of water per day. The acorns provide food for many animals, notably squirrels but also mice, deer, pigeons, ducks, deer, bears and pigs while the timber of the tree itself has long been favoured for its many attributes for hundreds of years. It’s strength is recognised by it’s status as the national tree of many countries, including England, France, Germany and the United States.

There are many types of oak found all over the globe and the variety favoured by Abbott-Wade and our customers is the White Oak variety and few can deny that it produces one of the most beautiful timbers with its desirable grains and warm tones. Our specially selected M8 oak newels are carefully designed to use the wood as carefully as possible ensuing a higher quality newel than other staircase companies and also with less wastage.

Oak has been used for centuries for smoking meat, meat and cheese, constructing navy ships, barreling wines and spirits and providing the interior paneling in the House Of Commons.

By choosing oak for your staircase, you’re following in the footsteps of many generations from around the world.

It’s strong and beautiful, and so are our oak stairs.
