The best things come in small packages. Not true of bank balances, but often true of many staircases. While we’ve installed some grand staircases over the years, the majority of us are slightly less well-endowed when it comes to our stairs. Many of the family homes we visit may only consist of two and a half newel posts – but size, after all, isn’t everything.
Smaller than the average home, the staircase in this small family home uses only one newel post at the foot of the stairs and cleverly angled toughened glass to diminish into the ceiling to maximize space on the stairway and add sparkle and light into a small space. The old ranch rails which encroached over the treads to narrow the walkway have been removed and a wall handrail added to ensure that the family have a safe handhold as they ascend and descend the stairs. For added character, a new step now invites you to climb the stairs from the hallway and bright, bold décor helps to emphasis light and compliment the oak rails.
“The staircase had only every been functional, for years we had no idea that staircase renovations were even possible. The transformation is incredible and the clever design means our stairway feels wider, especially with the new step. The whole hallway feels bigger and brighter and our neighbours cannot believe what has been achieved.”
