This new oak staircase forms the centrepiece of this home and uses glass down stands to comply with UK building regulations while maintaining the open feeling of the stairs allowing air and light to flow freely between the treads. The embedded glass balustrade comprises 10mm toughened safety glass and an inviting oak feature step.

Thank you to everyone who donated and participated in our fundraising for the Stroke Association, a wonderful charity very close to our hearts. Read more here. In January 2019 our friend and designer Colin Campbell suffered a stroke. Fortunately Colin’s recovery has gone very well and Abbott-Wade & the Campbell family have now raised almost £4000 so far and counting.
We’d also like to thank the lovely Mikaela from The Stroke Association North West for coming to visit us to allow us to present the cheque for all the money raised so far.
In more fantastic news, Colin’s son Drew has been selected to run in the 2020 London Marathon representing The Stroke Association. Links to his JustGiving page are below.
Abbott-Wade offer a range of glass staircases with embedded or clamped 10mm clear glass being a popular choice. For a super-modern minimalist style we also offer Frameless Glass options on new staircases such as this one. Our 15mm glass can be paired with oak or with a stained or painted finish on the stairs. Tour this recent installation over three storeys to see for yourself how the unobscured glass opens up the entire stairway and consider how a similar installation could transform your own home.
If you’ve already seen our 3D tour of the Grand Staircase at Buckingham Palace, you may also be interested to see the staircase behind the doors of another famous British residence. Behind the iconic door of the Prime Minister’s residence at Number 10 Downing Street is a staircase which has seen many of our most famous politicians come and go. Like your own home, the stairs are the first thing you see as you want through the front door but has been rebuilt once or twice over the past 300 years. Prime Minister Robert Wagpole commissioned a refurbishment of the staircase in the 1700’s – long before Abbott-wade popularised the trend! The stairs have withstood the test of time and still feature the cantilevered design with no visible supports. The stairway is now lined with the portraits of each Prime Minister since in chronological order, with the most recent towards the top.
Take the tour with Simon Schama and see how it compares with your own staircase…
Established in 1996, we now have a vast pool of experience and expertise; a valuable resource which is shared through the company as only a family business can. Abbott-Wade pioneered many of the techniques which have now become the industry standard and while we are proud to be local, we offer our customers a nationwide service based out of our business premises in Burtonwood, Warrington. From top to bottom – there are many things which set us apart. Unlike other leading staircase companies which have been established and run by individuals from a sales and marketing background; Abbott-Wade has been established and run by two experienced joiners with no other shareholders. You can imagine the difference in priorities – and you’d be right!
This Stylish Oak Staircase Renovation With Abbott-Wade’s Full-Twist Spindles Is Captivating
Abbott-Wade offer a wide range of traditional and contemporaryspindles with styles to suit every home. This installation uses our Full-Twist Spindles which are manufactured using cutting edge CNC technology. Full Twist spindles have a contemporary design with a hint of traditionally turned spindles in their silhouette. This culminates to create a subtlety modern feel with contemporary lines but the warmth and elegance of traditional design.
We are many things. We are the pioneers of the Staircase Industry. We are a Family Business. We are Award Winners. In January 2019 when our good friend and colleague was struck down by a Stroke – we became #TeamAbbottWade. The Abbott-Wade family, staff and the family & friends of our good friend Colin united like never before to raise as much money as we could to help the Stroke Association support more victims of Stroke and rebuild lives.
We’re delighted to say that since the events in January, Colin’s improvement has been remarkable and we immensely proud of his tenacity to recover.
There’s something strangely satisfying about looking behind the scenes of an iconic building and there are fewer buildings more famous than the Houses of Parliament and the iconic Clock Tower. The tower was renamed the Elizabeth Tower in 2012 in honour of Queen Elizabeths jubilee and stands 96 meters tall housing 11 floors. The Elizabeth Tower is often mistakenly called Big Ben which is actually the name of the bell within the tower inscribed with the name of Sir Benjamin Hall, First Commissioner for Works after whom it is believed the bell takes it’s name.
Within the belfry (whose bells were first broadcast by the BBC in 1932) is a spiral with 334 steps with a total of 399 to the lantern (the Ayrton Light) and an elevator is also expected to be added during the current restoration work. You can take a trip up the historic staircase (without having sore legs in the morning) by watching the video below:
By definition – we’re not your typical family business. Think of a family business and you might consider a business run by two siblings or a husband and wife team. At Abbott-Wade you’ve got a dig a little deeper to see just how deep the roots of this family tree really go.
In addition to the the Abbott-Wade family, the branches of the family tree have now spread even wider. When Designer Chris Davies told us he’d like to bring his son Max on board we knew that it was a great idea. Chris has been working in the staircase industry for many years meaning Max has grown up in and around the world of staircases and so it was only natural that he should follow in his fathers footsteps. Better still, Max can readily utilise the wealth of experience and knowledge gained by Chris.
This Pristine White Painted Staircase Renovation Will Wow All Visitors To This Home
All Abbott-Wade staircases are bespoke installations but can be made even more unique using colour. We offer a range of standard paints and stains and well as our unique colour compliment service to find the best bespoke colour for your home.
This staircase was transformed completely using pristine white stair parts and glass to make the entirety of the hall, stairs and landing feel much bigger and brighter. Contrast was added with a luxuriously soft charcoal carpet and splashes of colour from the green foliage and flowers. Watch the video to tour the complete installation and be inspired to how a new staircase could transform your home.
Amazing! From start to finish amazing, had Neville Johnson, Jarrods and Vale of Wigan out and Abbott Wade was by far... the best value for money of the bunch! The design was brilliant and the finish is excellent! Couldn’t recommend them enough!read more
Great craftsmanship but beware of the sales pitch! We had our stairs fitted by Lewis and Ellis who were fantastic,... they are great craftsmen, clean workers and very polite. Our stairs look beautiful and we are very happy with the end result. Unfortunately, in hindsight, we were less than impressed by the initial part of the process. Our sales consultant was Max, he was very nice to deal when we met him with however there were some key conditions that were promised to us by Max that were simply not met once he had clinched the sale. This was extremely disappointing to us because the conditions offered by Max influenced us to place our business with Abbott Wade instead of their competitors Neville Johnson. It has left a bad taste in mouth having agreed something upfront, only to be told 8 weeks down the line when the work has been completed, that we cannot have what we were promised unless we pay an additional 10% above the agreed price. Whilst we have raised these issues with Abbot Wade directly, and have been assured that our concerns will be taken forward and dealt with, it certainly took the shine off what would have otherwise been a brilliant experience.read more
Abbott Wade installed oak and glass bannisters in our house recently and they are just fabulous. All ran seemlessly,... from the initial meeting with their salesman, measuring up and then the fitters' arrival to the minute they left. I encountered barely any disruption.Lee and the chaps were great - turned up early each day and worked tirelessly for 3 days. All very friendly and professional. They left no mess at all (well apart from the dust, but that's expected) - disposing of all the old bannisters and other debris. Thanks also to Lana who handled all the admin and couldn't have been more helpful. They have transformed our house into a home and we love it.Thank you!read more
